My Experience With Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation

I love a good old glow and wanted to try out the Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid foundation owing to its smooth, satin finish. I have combination skin that is prone to breakouts, and I was looking for a formula that feels light on my skin. Also, I tried matte formulas in the past, and they always seemed to make my skin look dull and lifeless. I decided to try another finish altogether and here’s my experience with this product. Read on to find out how this foundation fares in my review.

Texture And Fragrance

This foundation has a lovely texture – it’s somewhere between a liquid and a mousse foundation. It’s thick in consistency, and yet, it blends like a dream. It does not dry out quickly, so you will have enough time to blend it properly before it sets. I use a damp makeup sponge to blend this out, and it leaves my base looking flawless. I was so glad that this foundation is fragrance-free. I can’t stand foundations that smell strongly of chemicals. Fragrance can irritate sensitive skin, and I steer clear of scented makeup.

Coverage

If you’re looking for a light and natural coverage, then this formula is made for you. It’s ideal for daily wear. Also, you can build up the coverage from light to a medium (at most). It will even out your skin tone and blur out the appearance of large pores and redness. However, if you have dark spots or scars, you will need to add a concealer to your routine as this won’t be of much help in that area. [ Read: Top 10 Primers For Oily Skin And Large Pores ]

Staying Power And Performance

This Maybelline foundation stays on for about five to six hours on normal, dry, and combination skin. Also, you can easily extend its life by adding a primer and a compact to your routine. However, if you have extremely oily skin, this is not a great option for your skin type as this won’t hold up well against an oily surface. It will melt, transfer, and end up in a mess, especially on hot and humid days. This one’s good for winters, but I suggest you give this a miss during the summers. I like the fact that it contains high SPF (24 and PA ++), which makes it ideal for daytime use. On the other hand, when I use this in the evenings or night and have pictures taken, my face often ends up looking washed out and ghastly. This phenomenon that unfortunately all of us have experienced at least once in our lives is known as ‘Flashback’. The dusty, white cast is caused by the SPF that saturates your complexion in photos. That being the case, I strongly recommend using this foundation only during the day.

Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation Shades

The Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation comes in five popular shades. I was disappointed with its shade range as most of them are suitable for lighter skin tones and finding a shade that will suit the average Indian skin tone is not easy. Let’s take a look at how each one of these shades performs.

Porcelain O2

This is the lightest shade in this foundation range. If you have pale to fair skin with yellow undertones, this will make a good match for your skin tone.

Nude Beige B4

Nude Beige suits fair skin tones with slightly pink undertones.

Pure Beige O4

This has a beige base without definite yellow or pink undertones, and it would suit fair to medium skin tones. If you want to neutralize the yellow hue in your skin tone, this shade will do the job well.

Nude B5

Nude is the darkest shade in this range. It would suit fair to medium skin tones. This shade won’t make you look pale or washed out.

Natural Beige B3

Natural Beige is ideal for a wheatish to fair skin tone. *Subject to Availability Let’s sum up the pros and cons of the Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Liquid Foundation to help make your decision easier. Pros

Will I Recommend This Product?

Yes, I recommend this foundation if you’re looking for a satin finish formula that gives natural to medium coverage. It comes with SPF, which is a big plus, but the biggest downfall of this range is that its shades fail to cater to most Indian skin tones. It makes for a good daily wear foundation but definitely isn’t something that you can use during the evenings or night time. I don’t recommend it for those with oily skin as it will make your face look shiny and feel sweaty after a few hours. If you don’t like your skin lacking that much-desired glow or looking flat, go in for a satin finish foundation for a smooth, natural sheen.
